The National Medical Stores (NMS) has confirmed that security agencies successfully foiled an attempted robbery at one of its rented warehouse facilities in Entebbe on Tuesday night.
According to a statement issued by NMS Principal Public Relations Officer, Sheilla Nduhukire, the incident was detected and stopped by NMS security teams working jointly with the Special Forces Command and the Uganda Police Force.
She said the area was immediately cordoned off as a precautionary measure to allow security agencies to conduct investigations into the attempted theft.
Nduhukire noted that there was no loss of medical supplies, as the suspects were intercepted while still at the warehouse premises and the items recovered on site.
During the operation, two suspects sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment, while three others were arrested and remain in custody.
She added that operations at the National Medical Stores remain uninterrupted despite the incident.
“NMS continues to cooperate fully with the relevant authorities and remains committed to safeguarding our personnel, assets, and the integrity of the national medicines supply chain,” Nduhukire said, while commending security agencies for their swift response.
NMS said further updates would be communicated in due course as investigations continue.
